How would you have handled Super-Saiyan?

The only two I would've given the ability would've been Goku and Vegeta. Gohan would be able to get to that level because of his hidden ki, but he wouldn't actually have the transformation.

Or perhaps Gohan might've had a different type of transformation that equaled the power of Super Saiyan, but due to him being only half Saiyan, this could explain the difference.
How'd you have done the following sagas, then?

Does Vegeta transform on his own through hard training?

 The transformations were great as it was a big part of the character's development and plot points. But if I really had to change anything, I'd keep MSSJ as a Goku exclusive and SSJ2 as a Gohan exclusive (And I'd also have Trunks turn SSJ via Gohan's death like anime, just for that extra impact). I know most people rather have regular SSJ be a Goku only thing, but to be honest the MSSJ was the most defining transformation of Goku's character and his influence on others. It was the perfect way to make Goku a true master by him being the first in history to fully master the pinnacle of Saiyan power, which then led to then plot elements of the Cell Games which further adds to its greatness. Him dying and staying dead at the end of the Cell arc was the perfect conclusion to his character arc and it wouldn't be possible without passing down the MSSJ to Gohan, which in turn made Goku realize how more reliable Gohan is in comparison. I'd also have Vegeta find a way to master the grade forms rather than the standard SSJ form (Similar to Trunks in DB Multiverse) where he can manually upgrade and downgrade his speed at any given moment, but still retaining the same Ki consumption the forms have so that MSSJ remains the superior form. Vegeta not being able to master the form due to his mentality was the perfect way to contrast their characters. This would be lost if Vegeta masters the form like Goku did.
